Speed test

Measure it properly.

A speed test is only as honest as its setup. Two minutes of prep, one industry-standard test, and a number you can actually act on.

Before you press the button

  • Plug in if you can. Ethernet removes Wi-Fi from the equation — it’s the gold-standard way to test the service itself.
  • Pause the heavy stuff. Backups, cloud photo syncs, and 4K streams on other screens all take a bite out of the number.
  • Turn off the VPN. VPNs reroute and re-encrypt everything; they routinely cost real throughput.
  • Mind the device. Older laptops and phones often can’t move 600 Mbps even on a perfect connection.

Ready when you are. The test runs right here on the page.

The measurement interface is provided by Ookla® Speedtest®, a third party. Starting the test loads Ookla’s tool and is subject to Ookla’s privacy policy.

Reading the result

One test is a snapshot, not a verdict — Wi-Fi placement, the device in your hand, and whatever else is on the line all shape the number. If wired tests run materially below your plan more than once, we want to know: email support@connectnyc.com or use chat, 24/7. The NYC Speed Guarantee explains exactly how we measure and what happens if we’re short.

Also worth a look: network status — if something is wrong on our side, it’s posted there.
